Elementary School Building Project APPROVED at Town Meeting

southptostoughton

At a Special Town Meeting on February 3, 2025, Town Meeting representatives once again showed support for the new elementary school building project. Town Meeting members were asked to approve the funding of a new consolidated elementary school building in Stoughton. Needing two-thirds approval in order for the article to pass, the vote was 110-28 (79.7%) in favor of funding the project.

The new school will be built for a larger enrollment, allowing us to consolidate the number of elementary schools in Stoughton from five to four - the new building, along with the Dawe, Gibbons, and Hansen. Meanwhile, the Wilkins would be repurposed as both a preschool and the district office. Additionally, the South and Jones buildings would be closed and turned back over to the town for town use or sale.

With the successful Town Meeting vote, Stoughton voters will now be asked to approve funding the project on April 8, 2025, which coincides with Stoughton’s annual town election. An affirmative vote on April 8 will officially give the green light for a new elementary school to be built.

Thank you, Town Meeting reps, for making the smart, fiscally responsible decision for the future of Stoughton.
